Dear Cleo 17 03 05

Dear Cleo

Somehow, someway, the course seems to be getting easier, the last project of part1 is here already. It is a little absurd that I had to do this without a live model but means must.

Figure 1 (17 03 05) Hand, knee, calf, sock, graphite on A4 cartridge

I was rather surprised how white my leg had gone over the course of the winter, I suppose it is always so and that I only ever notice things when I pay attention to them.

I was also interested to how art relies on contortionism, this time my own and not that of a model.

What do I like about it? The thing I like most is the knee, I know I didn’t draw my knee but I can sense its presence beneath my cupped hand. I think the drawing fills the brief to direct the eye through the drawing by using the forms. The sock gives vagueness to the foot to stop it competing too much with the hand. I have considered the composition and the negative forms and carried the work to the edges of the composition and the background is an object in the final drawing, consolidating the lessons I have been learning through the course so far.

What don’t I like? Not a lot really, and if I had to do it again I would use a model.

Well my dear that leaves plenty of time to do the assignment before I send it all off to the tutor

Yours

Mickos
